Finding God On The Bathroom Floor

Recently I read a blog post from a woman who has had cancer three times and she’s barely 30. The young woman shared how she laid in her bathtub and on the bathroom floor when she was so sick, she couldn’t function. She concluded the post by saying, “If you can’t see him, look lower. God is on the bathroom floor.” This was such a powerful post because I think this woman got it – God is not sequestered in heaven or in church merely observing our suffering.

No, He is in the middle of our pain. He’s sad when we are, and he wants to comfort us when we hurt. Isaiah 63: 9 says, “In all their affliction, he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them.” I don’t think this means the pain is always ameliorated, but rather that God promises to be present with us through it. The next time you are suffering and you wonder where God is, look lower because He just might be on the bathroom floor.
