A Power Greater Than Myself

I recently heard a podcaster say that we are often motivated by fear of losing control, of ourselves, of others, of circumstances, etc., etc. I would have to agree. This is most likely why Step 1 of AA’s 12 steps is that I am powerless over drugs, alcohol, and other people. Personally, I have found this truth freeing (after years of struggling).

It’s good it’s not up to me to say or do anything to make anyone else say or do the right thing. Ultimately, God is in control, and He can handle life without my help. That’s why Step 2 says “Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.” For me, it was insanity that had me running around trying to control everything and everyone. But today I will let God be God because I suck at it.
