Saturday Saints: Ignatius of Loyola
Ignatius of Loyola was a 16th century Spanish Basque soldier who became a Catholic priest and theologian later in life. With a group of six friends, he famously established the Order of Jesus, the Jesuits, a Catholic order responsible for countless missions and has established schools around the world.
Ignatius was educated as a minister later in life after years of pilgrimage and renunciation. Today, he is known for his personal meditations which were codified in his work on spiritual direction and retreat The Spiritual Exercises, a work that continues to be used in the Catholic and Anglican tradition.
Our activities will include presentation by the leader, group discussion, and individual reflection.
Jeff Bouis, Spiritual Director and Head Faculty of Spiritual Exercises at Heart Paths DFW, will lead this session. Jeff has studied Ignatius’ The Spiritual Exercises for many years and uses its methods in his own spiritual direction mentorship at Heart Paths.
